The BEST Household tip that I have EVER been given....

Okay...so Yesterday me and my daughters were looking at all my nail polishes in the living room. I made sure all the lids were on very tight...they just love to sort them out and look at them. So anyway...I was sitting there with them, and stupid me did not even realize that my 4 yr old daughter Anna was banging two bottles together! One unlucky whack.....and one of the hot hot hot pink nail polish bottles broke open ALL over the carpet, right smack in the middle of the living room! OMG.....have any of you ever seen the movie mommy dearest? Ya...I had a mommy dearest moment! I was freaking out! My daughter immediately ran to her time out spot during my mommy melt down! After I pulled myself together....I did what any mom in the 21st century does...run to the Internet and research how to get this out!!! After awhile I ran into a post that said to rub shaving gel and Windex on the spot with a warm wash cloth! I was like, "what?? no way!" But as you will all see in the picture below..I had nothing to loose! So I tried it....and I did have to scrub for about 2 hours....and the poor carpet is defiantly "balding" in this spot....but it looks SOOOOOO much better!! Oh ya...and did i mention that it's BRAND SPANKING NEW CARPET???

Before...you should have seen me laying over this spot and crying!!!

After...u can still see a bit of pink in there, but i think i can live with it!

Shaving gel and windex....wow...who knew??

ohh boy this brought memories back Years ago my then 2 year old son scribbled all over my newly reupholstered couch with vivid red lipstick. I freaked too. There was no way I could get it out (- pre internet days) Luckily my insurance covered re -re upholstering the couch but I felt so bad because about six months earlier our cat had clawed the couch to bits and they had paid for reupholstering the couch then too. We had no fault/all peril insurance. Give your little one a hug and tell her everyone learned a lesson.

Wow, that seems to have worked like a charm! Just a tiny bit of pigment left to tackle, try Oxyclean of course.

HI Melissa, Lisa sent me your way, you have a lovely blog :)

I think the reason the Windex works is because it has ammonia in it...that is really what did the trick ;) I hate straight ammonia though, so stinky :(

Nice to meet you!

Wow!! The first person to try this secret must have been extremely desperate! Your daughter running to her time out spot while you had a melt down is hilarious! I think she's officially trained.

Thank you so much for the sweet comment about Jeffrey. I think he's a pretty cute little guy, but I'm a bit bias.

OMGosh...that's amazing. I'm so glad you told me about this...I mean, I no longer have any carpet downstairs, but I do upstairs and you never know. I'll be sure to keep this one tucked away in my file of "What To Do If's"!

Great tip!

Love you!

Awesome tip! My daughter grabbed a bottle and decided it would be fun to paint on the back of her door and dripped it on the carpet! Was yours dry when you tried to remove it or still wet? Thanks!!!

Kids N Pets cleaner works as well. My daughter dropped (and broke) a bottle of red nail polish on tan carpet. My mother-in-law was amazed at how well Kids N Pets worked. No scrubbing, just blotting. It did take three tries, but it all came out and left the carpet looking like it had before.

Kids N Pets can be hard to find though. WalMart usually carries it. You can find it near the carpet cleaners on the bottom shelf.

The exact same thing happened to me! My daughter hit 2 bottles together and wham pink nail polish all over my bathroom carpet. We have covered it with a rug but I CANNOT wait to tell my husband we can get it out!! Yipee...Thank you!

That's amazing! A few years back I replaced our family room carpet because I couldn't get the nail polish out.

What a great trick. However, this is just one more reason why I'm not the proud owner of carpet! :)

What a GREAT tip! I wish I had known that when I spilled brown nail polish all over my carpet. I did it-not the kids which made me feel even worse.
